I am a creative and strategic leader with more than 20 years' experience in delivering organisational and societal transformation.
My career and contacts span multiple sectors and industries having worked at the highest levels across the media industry, government, private, public and voluntary sectors.
I was Global Head of Culture for The LEGO Group, which has more than 27,000 employees. My focus was driving the cultural and behavioural aspects of our leadership, wellbeing and digital transformation strategies during a period of huge international growth. Prior to that, I was Development Director at the BBC, and part of the executive board of BBC News & Current Affairs, leading 6,000 journalists worldwide. I led the culture change, leadership development, sustainability and talent agendas, and ran the flagship programme, BBC Young Reporter. Before joining the BBC, I was Deputy CEO and Creative Media Director of Media Trust, a national charity. I led the campaigns, content production and strategic partnerships with government departments, charities, brands and media companies such as Google, Sky, Channel 4, ITN, News UK, DMGT, Sainsbury's and Barclays.
I am on the Board of Trustees at The Forward Trust, a national charity that supports people to break the cycle of addiction and crime. Her Royal Highness, The Princess of Wales, is our patron. I am also on the board of The Arsenal Foundation. The Foundation works globally to change the lives of thousands of young people through the power of football.
I have been featured alongside 50 business leaders on the inaugural ‘Kindness and Leadership Awards’ run by Women of the Future and the Financial Times and as an ‘Inspirational D&I Leader 2023’. I have also been shortlisted for ‘Mentor of the Year’ at Women of the Future Awards and the European Diversity Awards. I was on GQ/Ei’s 100 most connected women in the UK list and in PR Week’s ‘29 under 29’ professionals in the UK. I created an award-winning interactive game, BBC iReporter, to tackle the rise of fake news and executive produced award-winning documentary ‘Summit about a boy’. I am a fellow of the British American Project
“I met Katie when she asked me to speak to a cohort of people at the BBC, as part of the Leadership Programme in BBC News that she had created and was leading. From that moment, we hit it off, as I met someone who genuinely saw talent and wanted to give that talent the best possible opportunity for it to thrive and succeed, but importantly progress. Katie is one of the best listeners I have met, a skill lacking in too many leaders. She really listens to unlock an issue and is incredibly creative, agile and adaptive at how best to solve it. She gives great advice and pulls on a very wide and broad network of contacts to really coach people and organisations through change and make things happen. She is simply one of the most inclusive and authentic leaders I have had the great fortune to meet. She is a firestarter, and I love that.”
“I first had the opportunity to work with Katie at the LEGO Group. We faced the critical challenge of unlocking the cultural aspect of our digital transformation. Katie quickly identified the pivotal role of leadership in modelling the behaviours necessary for sustainable change. She devised and implemented innovative methods to enable us to adopt and maintain these behaviours.
Katie’s leadership style is both practical and visionary. She has a remarkable ability to pinpoint the exact issues that need addressing and develop creative, impactful solutions, always putting people at the heart of what she does. Her approach not only enables successful transformations but also empowers others to become better leaders.”
"Katie Lloyd was introduced to me by my boss more than 15 years ago when he attended an event while she was Deputy CEO of the Media Trust. He came back to the office and said, you need to call this woman now and make this project happen. This is the impact she has, a clarity of vision that makes sense to the C-Suite, and an energy, a focus and the tenacity that means the vision is executed, no matter how complex or complicated the environment. She has a very unique set of skills that while many people talk about what leadership means in platitudes and quotes for social media, she has a strong intellectual approach while knowing how to connect the theory to the reality, this is a rare combination. She remains to this day a trusted friend and advisor."
“No one is better than Katie at detecting emerging shifts in the social fabric of organisations and creating actionable paths to mesh the social architecture with strategic purpose, and driving the organisation forward to its goals. “
“I’ve seen first-hand Katie's ability to drive impactful change and get things done. She has also enhanced the careers of many people in the media, from people starting out to those in senior roles. Her exceptional mentoring and leadership skills empower people to excel and thrive.”
"There was a point in my professional life where I went from a (sometimes reluctant) manager of creative work, to understanding the creative power of leadership itself. Katie Lloyd’s work - and her personal presence - made that change for me. Katie was then running a programme to develop leaders for BBC News. She and I met a few times and even those conversations, warm and open in a way that really cut through my inbuilt skepticism and defenses, were influential. I applied for the programme. It changed a lot for me, and a lot of that was Katie herself. She brings exceptional intelligence and strategic depth to the questions of leadership - thinking in three dimensions about everything from tech disruption to mental resilience. But what really distinguishes her is that she can bring that intellectual frame into a personal style that is warm, inspiring and respectful, creating the space for people to grow into in a way that benefited me personally. I’m grateful to her and to her approach to the question of leadership.”
"Katie is one the few people I know who can effect real organisational and cultural change. She has consummate communication skills, and a clarity of purpose. I worked with her on the first Menopause policy at the BBC which she drove with a quiet steeliness because she knew that it was the right thing to do. She is one of the most empathetic and intuitive leaders the BBC has ever had."
“Katie is an energising and empowering force. She has a sharp understanding, a forensic eye and emotional intelligence which – put together – is a formidable combination. She has been a transformational part of my own career progression and trajectory – and imbued a sense of confidence and achievability. Nothing is too big to aim for and totally achievable with the right plan, approach and networks. I am honestly indebted to and inspired by her. “
"I was lucky enough to be accepted on to one of Katie's leadership programmes. She opened my eyes to what good leadership could and should look like. It made me reimagine the kind of leader I could be. Since then, I have gone into a role managing more than 100 people, through an enormous period of change, I can hand on heart say there isn't a day that goes by where I don't draw on something I learnt from Katie and that course."
“Katie brings energy and momentum to what matters in organisations. Her perspective and pragmatism are invaluable in tackling tough topics and creating change. She’s also an incredible champion and sponsor of other people, I have no doubt that everyone is better because they get the chance to work with Katie in some way.”
“Katie supported me at a critical time in my career. I was recently promoted to a new role in the BBC, as Editor of Newsnight, and the process of getting that job started with Katie’s leadership sessions. Like many others, her pioneering schemes led to me reassessing my career choices. Katie’s communication leaves you feeling empowered and motivated.”
“Katie has an inherent understanding of how leadership works, especially good leadership, something many find elusive. Her support, empathy and coaching has helped me shape my personal brand and develop a wider understanding of the complexities and simplicities of great leadership and people management. Most importantly, Katie has always encouraged/coaxed me into putting that understanding into practice and she continues to be one of the first people I think of when I am facing a challenge.”
